Drunken Stampers 129 – The Hangover

DS129

Honestly, I had no clue! What a fluke that we scheduled this challenge, where the move is The Hangover or Las Vegas is the theme, the week that it’s sequel The Hangover III (also in Vegas) is hitting the theaters. Too funny! Of course don’t forget the Drunken Stampers Challenges this term is to use the movie (The Hangover) as inspiration or the theme (Las Vegas) or both!

The first movie is such a crazy movie where there’s lots of crazy inspiration to draw from. I originally wanted to use a tiger or even a blue/silver car in the desert. Hahahahaha!! But as I sat at my crafty desk, I looked around and came across this black corrugated card stock (by Creative Imaginations) and these playing cards. The playing cards came from a 12×12 sheet of card stock that was filled with sentiments, borders and these cards which were also a border. I don’t remember who made them, they look graphic 45 esque but I don’t think they are.

After I cut up the card border into individual playing cards I sorted them out and just instinctively paired them together. What a fluke! WAHOOO!! Looks like we’re playing Black Jack! Even the uncertainty in the last hand made the theme come together. (Now I do realize that dice isn’t used in Black Jack but I needed gambling themed border and it just seemed to work nicely with the black).

Another thing that’s perfect is that my brother, just got a new job and he’s a Black Jack enthusiast plus Las Vegas is one his fave places! He used to go several times a year. This card most definitely has a home. I guess it was luck!

Please visit my crafty colleagues who rolled the dice this week over at the Drunken Stamper’s Challenge blog then grab some playing cards or dice or tigers or babies or weddings (yeah, it was crazy movie) and come play with us!

Thanks for dropping in today and enjoy your weekend! Especially to my US friends with a long weekend!!

Five, Six…Five or Six ~ Drunken Stampers Challenge 121 ~ Mr & Mrs Smith

DS121

Yup, it’s Drunken Stampers Challenge Saturday and my team is up today! Now this movie, Mr & Mrs. Smith or Spy Theme was really quite challenging for the team. They came up with fabulous cards and I highly suggest you check them out! :)

Now here’s my card…

Before, a challenge term starts…we have the returning Drunken Stampers Designers give suggestions on challenge themes for the new term. I was SO glad someone mentioned Mr & Mrs Smith because well, it’s one of my fave movies! There were so many ideas in the movie to tap into and I chose a couple.

Green curtains! I’ve been thinking all week about green curtains!
In the movie, Mrs. Smith asks Mr. Smith if he likes the new green curtains and she adds, “If you don’t like them, we can always take them back.”
He replies, “All right, I don’t like them.”
She responds with a pause and “you’ll get used to them.” (hahahaha!)
Throughout the movie, the topic of the curtains finds a way of resurfacing now and then.
To make them, I painted some tracing paper with Lumiere metallic Olive Green Acrylic paint and although the colour turned out fabulous…it didn’t give the “feel” of fabric, it more looks like a shower curtain to me! LOL I think I’ll revisit this later for another project, I just LOVE the colour!
I threw in the wing backed chair because when the curtains first arrive Mrs. Smith is standing on a wing backed chair, trimming the loose threads balanced quite precariously. (It just looked cool)

Mr & Mrs Smith are at the marriage counselor, it’s the opening scene of the movie where my sentiment came from.

John Smith: Ok, I’ll go first. let me see… um… We don’t really need to be here. See, we’ve been married for five years.
Jane Smith: Six.
John Smith: [chastened] Five or six years.
Ah yes…the uncertainty of time is also a reoccurring theme in the film but it’s also funny that this secret agent where details are important is lackadaisical with regards to how long he’s been married.

Yes, I had fun in making this card! LOL It’s a little minimalist which could be due to my not so up and running mojo but even with that…I think there’s a little bit of meaning in the card! LOL

Ahhhh…Spike’s movie analysis in card form! Too funny!

Please check out the great cards by Barb G, Barb M, Chris, Jackie, Jessi and Vicki by popping into Drunken Stampers!

Thanks so much for dropping in today and enjoy your Easter Weekend!
